Community Connections held a stall at the Stroke Association “Community Fair” this weekend. The event aimed to raise awareness of strokes in the community. It was also a great way to end the ‘Action on Stroke Month’ campaign which has been running throughout May.
The event had a bouncy castle, face painting and a bric-a-brac pop up shop to entice people to join in the fun! Luckily the sun was out and the stalls could be held in Griffin Square, outside the Deptford lounge. Deptford high street is a busy market area and this gave us the chance to discuss Community Connections with lots of people passing by. In-between networking we played dominoes with the local kids and browsed the bric-a-brac stall!
Lewisham community organisations were well represented, with Carers Lewisham, Diabetes UK, Stop Smoking service and Healthwatch Lewisham in attendance. The Africa Advocacy Foundation (AAF) had a stall close to us too. It was great to see them there and this gave our Community Development Worker Sabrina a chance to catch up with them. Sabrina will be working with AAF to set up two new services in collaboration with The Reader organisation and My Computer Focus. Watch this space for future developments!
